Fact-checking policy

A wrong fee costs a reader money. A wrong rule costs them a flight. Verification is the whole job.

The standard

Every factual claim about fees, eligibility, processing times, permitted stay and extensions must trace to a primary government source. If it cannot, it is either removed or explicitly labelled as a general observation rather than a rule.

How claims are checked

Fees are checked against the published fee schedule on eta.gov.lk, not against secondary summaries.

Procedural claims about the application form are checked against the live portal.

Eligibility and extension rules are checked against the Department of Immigration & Emigration.

Where sources disagree, we follow the government source and note the discrepancy if it is likely to confuse readers.

Figures we flag as approximate

Some widely repeated figures are not published rules. The USD 50 per day proof-of-funds benchmark and the 24–72 hour processing window are both commonly cited expectations rather than guarantees, and we describe them that way.

Flight durations and connection routings are approximate and change with airline schedules.

Dating

Each page shows when it was last reviewed. That date reflects an actual re-check against sources, not an automated timestamp bump.
