Check Your Sri Lanka eVisa Eligibility

Six checks, two minutes. Running through them before you open the application form avoids almost every problem that shows up later at check-in.

The eligibility checklist

  1. Is your passport valid six months beyond departure?

If not, renew first. This is the single most common reason applications and boardings fail.

  2. Is your nationality on the free list?

If yes, your tourist ETA costs nothing. If no, budget USD 50 online - see the list below.

  3. Is your purpose tourism?

If you are attending meetings or conferences, you need the business ETA instead.

  4. Do you have a confirmed onward ticket?

Airlines and immigration both check. Book the outbound leg before applying.

  5. Do you have your first accommodation address?

The form asks where you will stay. A single confirmed night is enough to complete it.

  6. Any prior overstay or immigration offence?

If so, contact the Department of Immigration & Emigration before applying.

All six clear?

You are eligible for the standard tourist ETA. Apply directly on eta.gov.lk - approval typically arrives within 24–72 hours.
